Peroxisomal Biogenesis Disorder (PBD) is a spectrum disorder that affects 1 in 50,000 children, and is extremely devastating to a family. Many children affected with the disorder, like Ilan, do not live past the first years of life. Nearly all affected children that do live past the first years are usually deaf and blind, and require medical attention throughout the course of their life for feeding, mobility, and communication. The Global Foundation for Peroxisomal Disorders (http://www.thegfpd.org) is a 501(c)(3) public charity committed to funding research to develop a greater understanding of PBD, and to provide support to affected families. All proceeds from the Ilan-a-thon will benefit The Global Foundation for Peroxisomal Disorders.
Over the last several years, the Ilan-a-thon has had nearly 700 attendees and has raised more than $40,000 for the GFPD. These funds were used to support the first official GFPD research grant cycle, which funded PBD research at several research institutions, including the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore. This year, GFPD funds from the Ilan-a-thon and other fundraisers will be used to support drug screening efforts for PBD at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. The event will be held rain or shine, and entry fees are non-refundable.

5k Course
The course will weave through the Howard County Fairgrounds on paved and gravel roads. Strollers are allowed on the course – please start at the back of the pack as to not interfere with other runners.

Top 3 overall males and females, as well as the top male and female finishers in each age group as follows:
18 & under, 19-29, 30-39, and 40+
Amenities:
T-shirts guaranteed to those who register no later than May 20, 2016. Shirt sizes and availability NOT guaranteed to those who register after this cutoff. Water will be available at the halfway point of the 5k course, and course marshals will direct racers at major turns.
Packet Pick Up:
Packets will be available on June 4th from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Hampton Inn in Columbia. Packets will also be available beginning at 5:30 PM at the Howard County Fairgrounds.
